Ivan Julian’s “Heart of Fire” Organizer’s Message, GoFundMe Link & May 7th Lineup

Sugar Nation … a message from the organizers of the fundraising effort for Ivan Julian:

“First, thank you so much for pitching in with your time and energy–and money when possible–to help Ivan in his extreme need. The latest news regarding his condition is that, slightly over a year after his cancer diagnosis, and the months of radiation and chemotherapy in 2015 and early 2016, he’s been prescribed and is undergoing further chemotherapy. He’s faced all this with a profound toughness, and his spirit remains strong, but the economic problems harry him and his family as well, and, of course, that’s where there’s a certainty of effective help. So, thank you so much for contributing.

We’ve also created a GoFundMe page for Ivan, where people can simply donate money. It’s at https://www.gofundme.com/IvanJulianFund

Another reason we’re writing now is to extend the network of people who are aware of the situation. We’re hoping you might be able to send a message, a template for which we’ll provide here, in a broadcast email to your own personal mailing list, to as many friends and colleagues as are convenient for you to contact, to bring the situation, and how to help, to more people’s attention. This template for you to copy and paste into an email (and of course personalize if you care to) is appended below.

There was an incredible response to the announcement of the May 4th benefit concert; tickets sold out the day they became available.  That means $18,000 for Ivan.  The venue, City Winery, had another day, May 7, open and they offered it to us for an added show. We jumped at that, and tickets went on sale to the public on March 31. Ivan is also “family” to us so we are not pleased for the reason, but resolute and proud to be involved in the “Heart on Fire: Concert for Ivan Julian”.
